Surveillance is being conducted through annual telephone interviews, return visits to ELSA-Brasil clinics, employer reports, and linkage to national databases, such as the National Mortality System. Cohort participants will be reinterviewed and reexamined at the ELSA-Brasil clinics every 3–4 years.
