- Follow Up
- Participants from the Hoorn Study have been followed up via several visits to our study centre and via examinin their medical records. A physical re-examination was conducted in 1990-91, which repeated the measurements from the baseline visit with additional extensive diabetes complications measurements. The follow-up visits were repeated in 1996-98, 2000-01, 2005-07 and 2007-09. In addition to physical follow-up visits, all participants were still actively followed up for vital status by linkage with the municipality register and for occurrence of chronic diseases, with a special focus on cardiovascular disease and cancer as well as cause-specific mortality, by checking their medical records until January 2009.
