Follow Up
Follow-up was conducted at 6 months by telephone and then in person annually for 5 years.Information on vital and functional status, intercurrent symptoms, illness, or hospitalizationswas collected. Annual in-person follow-up visits were conducted at the medical center and included an interview, vital signs, and physical and neurologic examinations. Patients unable to come to the clinic were visited by a research assistant.
